| The following is a guide
line to help your healthy lawn
JANUARY: Warm season grasses BERMUDA, ST.
AUGUSTINE and ZOYSIA are dormant (and brown) and shouldn't need any feeding or mowing
unless they've been over seeded with annual RYE GRASS or RED FESCUE. Cool
season grasses MARATHON, TRIPLE CROWN, BONSAI, PERENNIAL RYE and GRAND
SLAM need regular mowing and feeding now until June.
FEBRUARY: Early this month is the best time to start applying a preemergent weed
killer to kill annual weeds like crabgrass on all lawns. A preemergent kills
germinating weed seeds.
MARCH: Dethatch warm season grasses and aerate cool season grasses. Continue using
preemergent.
APRIL: Feed and mow all lawns. Use a postemergent weed killer on a broadleaf weed
if necessary. This a good month to plant a warm season lawn. Aerate all lawns if needed.
MAY: Feed and mow all lawns. Plant warm season lawns.
JUNE: Feed warm season grasses. Don't feed cool season grasses.
JULY: Mow all grasses. Feed warm season grasses. Light feeding on cool season
grasses.
AUGUST: Mow and feed all warm season grasses. Mow and lightly feed cool season
grasses.
SEPTEMBER: Mow and feed all lawns. If you need to both reseed and use a fall
preemergent, try to reseed this month and use the preemergent in NOVEMBER. Feed
cool season grasses (if you didn't reseed).
OCTOBER: Reseed cool season grasses and over seed warm season grasses. Try
red fescue or intermediate ryegrass instead of annual rye. Reseed cool season grasses.
NOVEMBER: Same as OCTOBER.
DECEMBER: Mow and feed cool season lawns. Mow and feed warm lawns if they've been
over seeded and the temporary grass is ready.
Depending on were you live if temperature is in the eighties or above,
it's best not to do any feeding. If you do feed make sure to keep the lawn moist.
